Japan is known for its diverse and exciting food scene, with everything from traditional sushi to modern fusion cuisine readily available. However, for vegans, finding suitable restaurants can be a challenge. While many establishments offer vegetarian options, veganism is still relatively uncommon in Japan, and the concept of completely avoiding animal products can be difficult for some to grasp.
Izakaya Masaka is a small vegan restaurant located in Shibuya Parco, Tokyo, serving only vegan dishes. Their main dish is the mock karaage made with soy meat instead of chicken, which comes in five different flavors. Other popular items include gyoza, mabo tofu, soups, vegetable dishes, and spring rolls. They also offer set meals, which are reasonably priced at ¥950 and come with gyoza, rice, soup, and pickled vegetables. The restaurant is popular and can have long wait times, but the food is worth it, particularly the sesame karaage which is juicy on the inside with a sesame-flavored crisp on the outside. They also offer Chinese-inspired side dishes starting at ¥400.
Izakaya Masaka is a must-visit spot in Tokyo, Japan, whether you’re a vegan or not. This place offers an authentic Japanese dining experience and you’ll undoubtedly be pleased with the food.
